WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN’?: Bob Marley Documentary

There’s been a lot a talk for a while now, about the Bob Marley documentary, Marley,  Finally this spring on April 20th (fitting), the project by Academy Award-winning director, Kevin Macdonald, who did Last King of Scotland, comes out.  Macdonald is known for his documentary work, so I’m excited to see what sort story/angle he’ll portray of the reggae legend. From the trailer, the project seems pretty engaging, and the  beautiful shots of my homeland, Jamaica doesn’t hurt at all; it appears 4/20 is planned.

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN’?: Steam Cafe Art Show

I’m going to be in an art show tomorrow, with work…ok, one piece, for sale!
If you are in the NYC area, venture across the river to Jersey City (its literally no more than 15 minutes on the PATH train) for Steam Cafe’s, Opening Art Show Reception for their celebration of Black History Month.

Steam Cafe is a new Artists Cafe/Coffee Shop in Jersey City; this is their 3rd art show.

Come out and support!

Oh and that’s not my piece above, mine is a little more risque, and not on the internet…if you come you will see why!

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN’?: Madonna Giving it!

OK, so the song is lame, pop ish, but how amazing does Madonna look in general, and then factoring how old she is…the word stunning comes to mind! A large part of it is lighting, but more of it is about the Material Girl herself, who just oozes sexiness.  Watching Madge in this video (well most time is see her) moves me to want to get my butt to the gym, do more yoga, and eat healthy STAT!

I do wish I got a little bit more Nicki and M.I.A though.

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: J.Cole on Fallon

Did you guys get a chance to check J.Cole on the Jimmy Fallon Show on January 31st?  If you missed it, you can check out the Grammy Nominee above, and if you look quickly, you’ll see the homie, DJ Dummy along with The Roots. 

I have to admit, I’ve seen Can’t Get Enough performed enough times at this point, so I mostly transfixed on clothing….Ummm yea, can we talk about Cole’s leather and denim jacket?? I need something like that in my life ASAP, i’d rock the hell out of it!

I’m not completely sold, but maybe this Rag & Bones jacket may work:

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: The World According to Monsanto

Through the beauty of facebook, I stumbled upon the documentary The World According to Monsanto, it is by far one of the most disturbing things I’ve watched in awhile.   In short it’s about the company Monsanto, and it’s successful quest (full of lies and manipulation) to contanimpate and control the world.  What we are ingesting is being compromised for the mighty dollar, and I doubt we’ll fully understand is effects on the earth and human life for a long time.  Monsanto’s power a sad state of affairs for human kind, but hey, it creating huge money stacks for its thounds of investors, that’s all that matters right?

I’m not sure if going organic, will even save us at this point, but i know, I will not being eating seedless grapes or anything else I knowingly know is a Gentically Manuplated Organism.

I truly encourage everyone to watch this.

Wow…I’m baaack!

My last post was a fitting way to take a break.  Fortunately it wasn’t a real break, it was just one from daily blogging…hey, I’ve been on my grind baby!

We’re entering year number 3, yowzers! Things may change a little this year at What Gets You Movin’, but the premise is still the same; highlight and share those people, things, events, issues or places that stir me creatively, emotionally, physically, or whatever other way one can be stirred.

What’s got me going since the top of the year (you may vaguely remember is was Song of the Day in late November, is Drake’s The Motto, I can’t help but dance.

Enjoy as we start Movin’ through 2012.

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: inspirational souls

Somewhere between my quick business trip to Barbados with Dj Dummy and returning to the cold of NYC, I got a bit of my mojo back!

As my return to NYC tweet last night stated, I’m back on my grind:

…oddly enough in the process of looking for some info and reading the January 2012 issue of Self magazine, I ran into this video featuring A-trak, Curtis Kulig, Carlos Quirarte.  The video is a piece on people grinding in NYC that went with HBO’s now cancelled show, How to Make it in America (I’m sad about the cancellation, but they needed better writers, and needed to stop showing the obvious and develop the not understood). 

As i digress, this is a great piece to get motivated if you lost a little bit of your mojo.
