in my bed…

21 Nov

ok, so Monday was supposed to be the blog start date, i’ve been pretty bad about updating posts, seeing that this is only number 2.  As i figure out balance, this thing will get into full swing.  There’s a couple of things in the next few days that I want to share, and after that i will (positive language lol) keep it coming.

I’m working on a project that looks at people’s relationships with their beds.  The bed is this intimate, private place where we sleep and have sex, but most of us do much more there.  In this place where we end and start our day and most don’t see, we rest, think, play, cry, read, hide, recuperate…you get the idea.

In my search for inspiration and clarity on how i want to shoot the project, I came across this image.  The picture is called Leprosy, from Jan Sochor.  It’s quite a simple picture, but evokes a lot of emotion, pain, and mystery.  Is that man in agony or is he dead?  The image made me stop, it captivated me…so much so, that i doing my photography presentation on it for History of Photography.  There’s something about documentary photography/photojournalism that doesn’t compare to anything else.  Reality is so much more interesting than perfection.
