WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: inspirational souls

6 Mar

I saw this video a while back and have recently seen it popping back up multiple places.  Narayanan Krishnan shows the power of compassion, he moves me to do more.  Every time I watch his story of giving, a smile comes on my face and I tear up a little bit.

Enjoy. Be inspired. Get Movin’.

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: style

21 Feb

About 2 weeks ago I got a long overdue real hair cut; it’s been 6 months which feels like an eternity to me.  When deciding on which direction to go with the cut I referenced a picture that had struck me last spring.  It was a picture of fashion stylist and Fashion Editor for Big Magazine Dianna Lunt from the Spring 2010 J.Crew catalog.  I had saved the picture and ran into it in October.  From there it’s gone back and forth from my vision board to my purse (note the wrinkles) and back to the vision board. Dianna has sort of become my hair muse of the moment until probably summer/fall, plus I LOVE her style.

Keith Olbermann

Amazingly strong words by Keith Olbermann about the political violence in Arizona and its tone on our politics and country! Please watch, although the people who really need to watch this, won’t….

don’t tweet your face(book) off…

23 Mar

My blog post Don’t Tweet Your Face(book) Off via Tyra.com

I love the progression of Social Networking; we can share everything with our tweeps and ‘friends’ in a second’s notice, but it seems that it has affected our human interaction.  Instead of a phone call, text, or email- we now update our status. I think we’re beginning to tweet our faces off!

Here are 5 things to share with people (the ones you actually can touch) instead of to your network:

1.  VDA (Viral Displays of Affection):

I miss my honey so much, I can’t wait to see him later and give him a big kiss.

— Sweet, honest it is.  But keep that to yourself. Tell or text your ‘honey,’ not your social network.

2.  The Play by Play:
OMG! Are you serious! What is Jennings doing?!

— I like sports, but I don’t know who Jennings is or what he’s doing! Stop being a sportscaster on Twitter and just have a game day party with friends.

3.  What’s Your 20:
I’m in a cab going down 9th Avenue.

— I’m not quite sure whom you should be sharing this with, but this should definitely be a conversation between you and the person you’re hopefully meeting, not the entire cyber-world.

4.  Get off the Poll:
What should I eat, guys?.. What album should l listen to?

— I don’t know; I’m not a mind reader. Statuses aren’t an “Ask the Audience” Lifeline. Ask your BFF, they know you best.

5.  TMI:
My boyfriend just broke up with me without an explanation. I can’t get out of bed. FML.

— I sympathize, I really do.  But maybe this is the time to call your girls, and have a girl’s sleepover fest to cheer you up.

Follow these tips and your real-life social network will grow with a little face-to-face contact, feel free to share everything to actual ears.

I’ve mentioned this story to a couple of people, and no one has heard about it, so I figured I would post it.

This story is crazy to me, it leaves me numb.  What’s is wrong with people? How could you ruin someone’s else, at that a youth’s, life like that? …and more importantly, how the hell could your son be missing for 10 day, and you weren’t frantic calling the po-pos? He must have a crazy home life… that kid is screwed in more way than one.

For the last 4 days I’ve been trying to upload my video of Boogie Blind from the UBB Tour Launch to no avail. I was finally able to upload a video, but unfortunately it’s only the last leg of his amazing set. He, along with a slew of legendary DJs, rocked BB Kings in NYC on 2/24, to celebrate Ultimate Breaks & Beats hitting the road! Check out the clip below, Boogie killed it and had everyone screaming…he shut it down! I’m not quite sure why DJ Scratch found it necessary to jump into Boogie’s set, maybe he was just hyped or something, hmmm…

As far as the tour, I’m not talking about some sort of CD playing DJs, I’m talking about real DJs. They scratch, mix, do tricks, and know how to rock any party. The lineup is ridiculous, Dj Dummy, Boogie Blind (The X-Ecutionerz), Dj Evil Dee (Da Beatminerz), Dj Scratch, Lord Finesse, Breakbeat Lou (Co-Founder Of Ultimate Breaks & Beats), Dj Incrediboi, Mr. Walt (Da Beatminerz), and many more! Big ups to Eddie B Swift for putting this whole thing together. I don’t know which DJs are playing where, but they’re hitting up 25+ cities. I have to double-check the dates, but this is what was on DJ Wayneski’s site. Go see them if you can, you will surely get a music history lesson.

I took a few flicks while I was there, check them out also.
