WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN: The Dig’s ‘Midnight Flowers’

22 Jun

After my good friends, The Dig (thedigmusic.com), showed me the cover of their then, upcoming new album, Midnight Flowers, I had an idea of them at night, in the forest, with a car light. That idea and 2 cold spring nights turned into the above promotional picture for my talented friends.  Continue reading

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN’?: Bob Marley Documentary

20 Feb

There’s been a lot a talk for a while now, about the Bob Marley documentary, Marley,  Finally this spring on April 20th (fitting), the project by Academy Award-winning director, Kevin Macdonald, who did Last King of Scotland, comes out.  Macdonald is known for his documentary work, so I’m excited to see what sort story/angle he’ll portray of the reggae legend. From the trailer, the project seems pretty engaging, and the  beautiful shots of my homeland, Jamaica doesn’t hurt at all; it appears 4/20 is planned.

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: inspirational souls

25 Dec

Somewhere between my quick business trip to Barbados with Dj Dummy and returning to the cold of NYC, I got a bit of my mojo back!

As my return to NYC tweet last night stated, I’m back on my grind:

…oddly enough in the process of looking for some info and reading the January 2012 issue of Self magazine, I ran into this video featuring A-trak, Curtis Kulig, Carlos Quirarte.  The video is a piece on people grinding in NYC that went with HBO’s now cancelled show, How to Make it in America (I’m sad about the cancellation, but they needed better writers, and needed to stop showing the obvious and develop the not understood).

As i digress, this is a great piece to get motivated if you lost a little bit of your mojo.

I found a few images in my archive of the last few months and decided to add them to my photography website Jado Images, which is desperately due for it’s 2012 facelift!

The images are of super chill rapper Noreaga, who I had to spend the day with for my job at Vlad TV this summer.  Then there is rapper and sometimes singer Lil Mama, who I caught a quick flick of at the Black Girls Rock concert.  And last but not least, and my favorite picture of the 3, is up and coming singer Raye 6 (you may remember pics of her from my event site Frozen Heartbeat), who did like a 3 minute mini photoshoot for me backstage of the Ghetto Metal  show at SOBs last month, I ended up loving this candid shot.

Enjoy.

I haven’t exactly been happy with my work over the last few months, but being in school means I’m forced to show things whether I’m ready or not.  So alas, I must show some work.

Come check out the 3rd Year BFA Photography Exhibit, tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Fashion Institute of Technology, 5pm, and see what my fellow juniors and I have been working on. (For those out of the loop for the last 2 1/2 years, I’m a junior at FIT, working on my 2nd Bachelor’s degree. )

Since last year, the rapper, Live Wire and I have been talking about a photo shoot idea involving power lines and lightening.  I wasn’t sure how to go about executing it, but I had the idea in my head and just went for it.  Above is the result.

This shoot made me fall in love with the 1Ds Mark III!
