WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: style

19 Nov

In 2010 when i did my Style Diary, i couldn’t keep up with the shooting, now I can’t keep up the posting! lol…so it goes.  So yea, I’m playing a little catch up with this  Style Diary of mine.

Back in the 3rd week of October the weather was probably cooler than it has been in November and it seemed like a had a lot more running around than usual to do.

My favorite outfit of the week is between Tuesday and Friday, but I think Friday wins. Friday is my black H&M dresses paired with my, black vintage sweater, that has become my temporary jean jacket replacement until i buy another jean jacket.  Tuesday almost won because i pulled out my necklace that I bought in South Africa, that I rarely ever wear, but I felt sexier Friday, so leather mini dress wins!

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: style

30 Oct

Back in 2010 when this blog was According to Jay, I introduced Style Diary to start the new year, a glimpse, a diary if you will, that looked at what i wore for the week.  It was supposed to be sort of this photo documentary, that i was toying with, but sadly my schedule did not permit me to keep up with it.  To read about the background of my idea, check out Style Diary: Week 1. (or click on the What Gets You Movin, Style Diary, categories tab, to see the whole series)

If you read Style Diary: Week 1, you know I’m no fashonista; I don’t even like to shop.  I just like clothing, and what the ability of dressing does to you mood, mindset, and body.  I think rocking a key piece always makes you looked dressed, whether casually or formally dressed. And there is a science to wearing clothes, to make your body look the way you want it to…proportions are everything!

Over the 1 1/2 years that I stopped posting to the Style Diary, I’ve had quite a few people ask me about it; I didn’t even realize people were checking it out! So here we are again, nearing 2012, and I’m jumping back into the shoes of Style Diary.

I’m simplifying this time around so that i can fit it into my schedule, so no background scenery changes, but hang out with me as I work it out the kinks.

10.10 – 10.16
What a week to start shooting the Style Diary!  I’ve been in a bit of a sad stupor, overwhelmed with all that I have going on, and sleeping maybe 4 days out the week.  This means outfits that are quick, comfortable and apparently black?  I wasn’t aware until i looked at pics how much black I was wearing, so I’ll have to say Tuesday was my favorite outfit.  I don’t wear prints that often, but I was drawn to this Native American-esque print as soon as I saw it; throw that on with a skinny jean and heel, and my mood goes up 200%!

WHAT GETS YOU MOVIN?: hotness

17 Oct

It’s time for another hotness post!

This time I don’t know his name, but while watching my interview with Perry Ellis designer, John Crocco, I remembered my Fashion Week crush. At the Perry Ellis show, I saw this lovely looking gentleman, and I was quite smitten.  I later found out that he was a model for the show, although he only came out for the swimming trunks portion; what was up with that?  He technically was acting way too cool for the model thing, like he wasn’t into it, so maybe he was just someone’s good looking friend, I don’t know.

Anyway, I had the pleasure of watching the models practice before the show, so I snapped that memorable face.  That face had me drooling for weeks! I’m over it now, but far be it from me to stop you from salivating!

Yesterday I posted my chat with Honor designer, Giovanna Randall.  Today I’m revisiting New York Fashion Week, with my chat with Perry Ellis designer and creative director, John Crocco.  He was really nice, chill, and I totally understood his vision for the collection, I think he had 36 looks or something crazy-high for a runway show.

The best part of the show was the beautiful models, and more importantly they took their shirts off for the finale; umm…yes please! =)

If you missed my pictures from the Perry Ellis show, you can check them out here.

During Spring/Summer 2012 Mercedes-Benz Fashion week, I went to many shows, one of my favorite was Honor; remember some of my pictures I posted (click here)?

In addition to going to the show, I also got a chance to speak to Honor designer, Giovanna Randall as well as actress Tracee Ellis-Ross. Take a peek at some of my conversation, as well as the collection in motion!

I left the Perry Ellis show saying yummy, although my favorite model of the show only walked at the end….i wish i knew his name,!  Anyway, Creative Director and designer, John Crocco did a nice job with 2012 Spring collection, and who ever did the casting did a spectacular job.  Over the seasons, we’ve seen Crocco infuse more color into the Perry Ellis brand, and this spring he opted for a more muted color palete.  I got a chance to speak with the designer, and he said he was inspired by the Arizona deserts, and that can be clearly scene.  With heavy use of khaki and creams, accented with corals, cyans, purples, yellows and blues, I could see the desert sky at sunset.

Although i would love a man with a little more edgy style than the Perry Ellis man, everyone once and a while, or on vacation, I’d enjoy this pumped up preppy look.

The best part of the show, was of course the boys, but more importantly at the finale, when all the models came out shirtless.  OOOh Wee! All of the ladies, and most of the men, were quite happy, let me tell you!

I got a chance to check out 20 year, design culture staple, Daryl K’s 2012 Spring collection.  She up kept her casual silhouettes, detailed pants, and I enjoyed the water color prints.  I didn’t love the the show, particularly with the awkward set up, but my positives out way my negatives for the most part, seeing that my negatives are more about the show than the clothing.

I enjoyed the fact, with her rock sensibility, that Daryl K used drummers as her background instead of some random instrumental.  I think it would have helped though if the drummers had practiced; it got distractingly bad.  Regardless, it’s about the clothes, its a spring/summer collection, and the collection did make me want to go on vacation.  I would say some of the color choice and hat choices were kind of odd for me, for the season. I like black, but at times it came off harsh, and not in a good edgy way..

I left not overly impressed by the collection, but i wasn’t upset
