i want it…

30 Mar

From what I understand the iVictrola is already sold out after an exclusive test run, but I want it!  Although I love modern decor, growing up with my mother, I have a deep love for antiques.  The iVictrola designed by Matt Richmond for Made-Craft, is perfect blend of both my antique and modern aesthetic tastes, plus it’s a conversation piece.

The iPod base is made of solid walnut, and is complimented with a Magnavox horn.  What’s great is that it’s not just for show, the music actually plays out the horn! How sexy would that be to have Duke Ellington’s In a Sentimental Mood playing out the iVictrola on a rainy day. * sigh*

“and some might say that he’s a dummy…”

I shot extraordinary party DJ, Music Director, Producer, and DJ for Common, DJ Dummy…ok, ok, ok and my artist, a few weeks ago. Here are a few of the images.  I can’t wait until it gets warmer, so we can go on location and hopefully get more creative shots!

Loving the Forever Roc Raida t-shirt picture, RIP Raida you are thoroughly missed.

Also check him out live every morning 7-9 AM, at the Breakfast Club. He starts your day off right…no more angry mornings!

just put it in the bag…

I love creative beings, so I had to highlight the limited-edition, hand-crafted luggage by London College of Fashion graduate student, Sara Williams (via Trendland).  The pieces are AMAZING!  …I know I wouldn’t be checking them on the plane though.

The beautiful work costs a pretty penny, and rightfully so. Not only are the pieces the most innovative designs I’ve ever seen, they are made by traditional bridle leather of the finest quality, the brass bands are created by metal crafters, and the saddle stitching is all done by hand.

The designs were made to challenge tradition.  Score!

these are a few of my favorite things…

You may have figured out by now that Music and Photography are my passions.  One of my favorite sites/photographers that infuse my passions is photobytone.com.  Tone’s work is the closest I’ve seen to what direction I’d ideally like to go with my craft.  He’s able to bring photography, music, and the random minutia that inspires him, together in an intriguing way.  Much of his work also involves visually appealing intimate video interviews with musicians.

His recent posting, 431, is with The Kid Daytona.  I’ve known Daytona for a couple years, but hadn’t seen him for a hot minute. Ironically enough, I saw him last week at Santos and asked him what was going on in his flourishing career. I’ve been slipping on my Hip-Hop game, because apparently he’s the next big thing.  Other than knowing that he’s a genuinely nice guy, with an amazing memory, the last thing I really knew about his music was his Justin Timberlake, Sexy Back remix and his fun single Fly Shit.

I got a chance to check out his new stuff, and I must say all the buzz is warranted!  I’m hyper-critical of Hip-Hop these days, and he’s nice (and I’m not saying this because I know him).  He has a vibe that just might be necessary for the music game right now, and the canter of his flow is refreshing.   There’s a small excerpt from his song Lately in that Tone video.

Look out for The Kid Daytona!

i shot a baby…but i didn’t get arrested

1 Mar

If you recall my tweets, you may remember that I said I shot a baby.  I love saying it because it sounds so wrong.  Obviously since I’m a photographer, I don’t mean with a gun.  Anyway, so a few weeks a go, I had the pleasure of photographing a friend’s newborn.  Some may know, I’m not exactly the most maternal of sorts, plus it was my 1st time shooting a baby.  I was excited and nervous, but it came out pretty good.  Here are a few of my favorites:

3d photography…

10 Feb

With the craze of 3D movies in 2009, including Avatar (I haven’t seen it), the 1st 3D webisodes, and even the Grammy’s, it appears that everything is gong 3D.  I didn’t even know one could make 3D imagery, in a sort of tangible format, like a magazine, but evidently you can…maybe 3D porn mags are next.  Anyway, I came across a spread by Paris based photographer, Baldovino Barani, who shot a 3D fashion editorial for the 1st issue of Archetype X Magazine.  I don’t have a pair of 3D glasses to fully appreciate the spread, but regardless I found it captivating…it really stimulated my eyes.  I decided to look at more of his work; whether he shoots in black and white or vivid color his imaginative images in exotic locations are elegant, yet oddly sinister.  You can’t help but take a second look…the unearthly gaunt models may have something to do with it as well.

I’ve posted some of the images from the 3D (Total Eclipse of the Heart) spread, and more images from Baldovino Barani‘s work.  To eee more of his work click here.

in the know…

If there’s a NYC social event that I’ve been meaning to go to over the years, it’s the Guggenheim’s First Fridays series. Today marks the end of this 5 year Art After Dark event, so I’m going!  Partying the night away, enjoying art and drinks in the beautifully sinuous environment, while having my brain tickled by creative minds, sounds like a psychedelic time.  Even more enticing for the grand finale, is that Chromeo is DJing the event!!! You may remember I was raving about them in December and had their album Fancy Footwork as the Album of the Week.  It’s going to be a great time! Dancing in a museum seems so wrong, but it’s fun to be naughty sometimes.

A new series will start later this year.  For more information about First Fridays or the Guggenheim, click here.

If you’re going let me know or say hi!
